The Biggest Lie Adults Tell Each Other.
There are a handful of lies people tell themselves.
“I’m just going to watch one episode.”
“I’ll answer that email tomorrow morning.”
And my personal favorite…
“We should do this more often.”
You know exactly when it happens.
You go out with your friends, you laugh harder than you have in weeks, everyone has a great time, and as you’re walking back to the car someone says, “Seriously… we need to do this more.”
Then nobody plans anything for the next four months.
Life gets busy. Work piles up. Someone gets engaged. Someone has a baby. Somehow another friend starts training for a marathon even though last year they thought walking through an airport was cardio.
Before you know it, your group chat has turned into nothing but Instagram Reels and “Happy Birthday!!” messages.
Here’s my completely unbiased opinion…
Live comedy is one of the easiest ways to break that cycle.
You don’t have to plan a whole weekend. You don’t need matching outfits or a group vacation sp readsheet. Just pick a date, grab a couple of friends, and show up.
For two hours, nobody’s talking about work. Nobody’s checking Slack. Nobody’s pretending they enjoy networking. You’re just laughing together, and somehow that’s enough.
I’ve got some really fun shows coming up over the next couple of months, and I’d love to see you at one of them.
And yes… I’m going to keep reminding you about October 20 at Zanies Chicago, because it’s a show I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. If you’ve been waiting for the right night to come out, this is it.
So text that friend you’ve been saying, “We should hang out soon.”
This is “soon.”
I’ll see you at a show.
